Once per week at Franklin High School I teach an art class called the Art of Resistance & Resilience. Moved by the the look of grief and trauma on my students faces the day after the presidential inauguration, I decided to start this class because signing petitions and writing to politicians who may or may not listen to me was not enough. So I set out to create a safe space for students to channel their feelings into art that resists injustices everywhere. We’ve mainly focused on screen printing t-shirts, posters and hijabs, in addition to making pins. The following images showcase their accomplishments from this last semester. This class is made possible by donations. Please contact me if you’d like to contribute a donation.
